Textual transcription and analysis of the seven poems encoded here were undertaken in Fall 2003 by graduate students in William H. Sherman's English 601 class, "Literary Research and Critical Contexts."
Text editing of "Buddha" was performed by Bob Nolan.

Buddha: HERALD Version
Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven
There are two "Buddha" poems included in the Versioning Machine. This version is called the "HERALD" version from the phrase "HERALD'S LAST BLAST" in the first line. The first version is dubbed the "INSIDEINFORMATION" version after the first line of the poem. The poems are believed to have been written in 1926-27. A loose sheet containing part of the poem, the "DIMORBED" sheet, has not been included in this collection. "INSIDEINFORMATION" was written on three loose sheets (text on back and front), and "HERALD'S LAST BLAST" was composed in a Max Krause Briefpapier notebook.
